From 15 May to 15 November 2026, the birthplace of Dante Alighieri hosts Inferno — an immersive digital exhibition dedicated to the first cantica of the Divine Comedy.
Dante's Inferno Immersive Experience is a multi-layered project that transforms the Inferno section of Dante's Divine Comedy — one of the most powerful narratives in world literature — into a contemporary experiential space. Beginning with Dante losing his way in the Dark Forest, this journey is not merely a fantastical narrative about the afterlife; it is a profound inner questioning in which the visitor confronts their own choices, weaknesses, desires, fears, and conscience.
The project positions the visitor not as a spectator observing Dante's story from the outside, but as a traveler moving step by step through this dark universe. Through spectacular digital animations, visitors descend into the nine circles of the afterlife alongside the Supreme Poet and Virgil, in an experience uniting art, literature and technological innovation.
Cattedrale dell'Immagine
In the heart of Florence, the deconsecrated church of Santo Stefano al Ponte is one of the unknown masterpieces of Florentine architectural heritage. In 2015, thanks to Crossmedia Group, the church was reborn as the Cattedrale dell'Immagine — the first permanent centre in Italy for Immersive Art Experiences.
The interiors have been digitally mapped, creating the first Immersive Art theatre in Italy that hosts exhibitions dedicated to the world's greatest art masters. A space where art, culture and tradition find new life.

Your Journey Through Hell
From the Ticket Office to the VR Room, every space draws you deeper into Dante's universe.
Ticket Office
The experience begins here. The visitor leaves the everyday world behind and enters Dante's universe — the act of purchasing a ticket symbolically becomes the act of passing through the gates of Hell.
Dark Forest
Designed with tree textures, shadows, dark passages, and animal figures, this space represents inner disorientation and the human search for the right path. Virgil is introduced here, alongside the key figures of the Inferno.
Mirror Room
Inspired by the dark waters of the River Styx, this section creates a powerful scenographic language through mirrors, projections, flames, and smoke. Hell is no longer a distant myth — it becomes a reality that surrounds and draws you in.
Layers of Hell
"Abandon all hope, you who enter here…" Referencing Botticelli's famous Map of Hell, this section takes the visitor on a layered journey through all nine circles, where every punishment — according to Dante's principle of contrapasso — reflects the actions of one's life.
Immersive Room
The main experiential space reconstructs Dante's Inferno through architecture, light, sound, moving images, and digital projections. In this area, the viewer does not simply see Hell — they walk through it, hear its sounds, feel its light, and become part of its atmosphere.
VR Room
Through VR technology, visitors enter Dante's Inferno in a more personal, intimate, and impactful way. Red lava textures, dark walls, smoke, cracked floors, and virtual depth turn Hell into a reality not only observed, but truly experienced.
VIP Experience
With the VIP ticket, visitors enjoy an exclusive interactive experience through the lenses of our VR headsets.
Embark on a 3D journey through Dante's own eyes, starting in 13th-century Florence and descending into the Inferno, sharing the same virtual environment with your friends. The VR experience is available exclusively as part of the VIP ticket.
